Ken TOMIOKA : music director\u3000<\/span><\/p>\n

While majoring in Law at Doshisha University, Ken Tomioka started his career as a conductor, learning Musicology under Maestro Hiroshi Wakasugi, who had previously served as the music director of Tonhalle Orchester in Z\u00fcrich.<\/p>\n

After receiving a bachelor\u2019s degree in Law at Doshisha University in 1974, he attended Wayne State University\u2019s Music Department in Detroit, Michigan until 1977<\/p>\n

In 2001, Ken Tomioka organized the Osaka Chamber Opera. To commemorate the foundation of the Opera, \u201cAmahl and the Night Visitors by G.C. Menotti\u201d was performed at Tadao Ando\u2019s Church of Light, which was covered the first page of Asahi Daily News, the largest newspaper in Japan.<\/p>\n

\u00a0In 2002, through the invitation of the famous Tenor, Zeger Vandersteene (Belgian), Ken Tomioka accompanied Frans Br\u00fcggen during his tour of the Toscana region in Italy.\u00a0\u00a0 He also visited to direct for the Romanian National Oradea Philharmonic, in 2009 and in 2011.<\/p>\n

In addition, his overseas activities include attending master classes in Hochschule f\u00fcr Musik Franz Liszt Weimar, the performances at America Arcady Music Festival (Main, USA), Komischen Oper (Berlin, Germany), a Japan week in Wiener Musikverein Gro\u00dfer Saal (Wien, Austria), Carnegie Hall (New York, USA) and other venues.<\/p>\n

Ken Tomioka also has extensive teaching experience, having taught conducting classes, opera exercises and chorus classes at Osaka University of Arts for over 20 years.<\/p>\n

\u00a0In 2017, he was awarded Kyoto Choral Federation Grand Prix called \u2018\u201cTodo Prize\u201d for his notable creativity and outstanding musicality. Since 2019, he has been elected as a member of the Executive Committee for the Sing for Peace 2020, International Choral Festival in Kyoto.<\/p>\n

Being admired as one of the best seven choirmasters representing Japan, his distinguished talent and affluent enthusiasm toward music has the power to combine the audience with the performers as one, which is an awe-inspiring and fascinating experience for many classical music fans.<\/p>\n
